Welcome From The Head

It is a genuine privilege to welcome you to Craigclowan.
There is something very special about this school. Set in 15 beautiful acres overlooking Perth and the River Tay, Craigclowan is a place where childhood is cherished, where children are known and understood as individuals, and where they are encouraged to embrace every opportunity with confidence, curiosity and joy.
Childhood is precious, and we have the enormous privilege of sharing some of its most formative years with our pupils. These should be years filled with discovery, friendship, challenge, laughter and a growing sense of who they are and what they might one day become.
At the heart of Craigclowan are relationships. We believe that children flourish when they feel happy, secure and known; when the adults around them understand not only what they can do, but who they are. Our strong sense of community allows us to know our pupils exceptionally well - their strengths and interests, the things that make them smile and, just as importantly, the moments when they might need a little more encouragement. It is from this foundation that children develop the confidence to take risks, embrace challenges and flourish.
We are ambitious for every child. Academic excellence matters, and we want our pupils to develop a genuine curiosity and love of learning, but a Craigclowan education is about so much more than what happens within the classroom. We are equally ambitious for the people our children are becoming. We want them to grow into confident learners, independent thinkers and kind, grounded young people who are willing to challenge themselves, contribute to their community and make the very most of the opportunities before them.
Those opportunities are wonderfully varied. Whether discovering a passion in the classroom, performing on stage, competing on the sports field, making music, exploring the outdoors or simply enjoying friendships and the freedom of childhood, we want every pupil to find something at Craigclowan that makes them stand a little taller and think, “This is something I can do.”
Craigclowan is also a school with a proud history and strong traditions. These matter. They connect generations of Craigclowan children and create identity, belonging and a powerful sense of community that extends beyond our pupils, to their parents. Our parents are an important part of school life, and the relationships and friendships formed across the Craigclowan community are part of what makes this such a special place. As Head, I see it as my privilege and responsibility to cherish what makes this school distinctive whilst ensuring that we continue to look outward and forward, preparing our pupils with the knowledge, character and confidence they will need for the world beyond our gates.
As part of the Glenalmond family of schools within ACES, our pupils and staff also benefit from belonging to a wider educational community, opening up exciting opportunities for collaboration, shared expertise and experiences, whilst retaining the distinctive character and close-knit family feel that make Craigclowan so special.
Above all, I want Craigclowan to be a place that children are excited to come to each morning: somewhere they feel happy and safe, where they are challenged and supported, where their successes are celebrated and where they know, unequivocally, that they belong.
Of course, no website can truly capture the spirit of a school. Craigclowan is best understood by walking through our doors, meeting our children and staff and experiencing the warmth, energy and sense of possibility for yourself.
I would be delighted to welcome you and your family to Craigclowan and to share with you what makes our school such an extraordinary place for children to learn, grow and belong.
