Dear
Parents,
The entry of
children into the senior school can be somewhat
bewildering. The formal teaching of science will almost
certainly be a new experience. We would like to take this
opportunity to outline the course of study your child
will be taking over the next three years.
The three
disciplines; biology, chemistry and physics are taught as
separate subjects within the timetable. We have produced
our own teaching materials in the form of A4 booklets.
These serve as the foundation upon which we experiment in
the two labs at school, the Maxwell and Fleming labs
located on the top floor of the new building. Each child
has a notebook for the recording of these experiments.
Homework is set once
a week and more often than not the solutions to these
preps can be found within the materials. We
would urge you to remind your child that the materials
are to be used constantly as a source of information.
Preps will be far less painful as a result.
We would ask at this
point that you provide your child, as soon as possible,
with an A4 lever arch style folder and a ready supply of
clear poly-pockets for the safe storage of
the handouts.
More details of the
course are outlined in the Introduction
handout which you may wish to browse through. It is full
of useful tips and you will see the timetable for the
exams. Craigclowan delivers the syllabus leading to the
Common Entrance Examination in the final term of Form 8.
In addition to the
exams we will report on your childs progress
through the term mark orders and various parents meetings.
You are, of course, welcome to speak to either of us at
any time if there are any matters arising.
Yours faithfully,
Florence Proctor
