Form 2
Over the course of the year, Form 2 children will experience a diverse and rewarding topic based curriculum. Our success is achieved through structured tasks, independent and group investigations, a lively programme of interactive mental maths, extra curricular visits, taking part in musical and dramatic performances and an active Physical Education programme. The children also learn to play a musical instrument called an ocarina!
The information below is intended to answer any queries that you may have about your child starting in a new class and the daily routines that you will encounter.
Lessons finish at 2.50pm and the children then have free play in the classroom. Collection is flexible between 2.50 and 3.30pm.
For games the following kit is required:
Please note: It is also advised that a named apron could be in school for messy days!
Form 2 children will have a small amount of homework each night which should take not longer than 15-20 minutes. The homework will be written in a prep book so you can check what they have to do. This will usually consist of reading and two spellings to learn and write in a sentence.
Reading is Fun!
Promoting reading at home is perhaps the most important way you can help your child. Our classes are heard reading daily and often the children in Form 2 become so involved and excited by the books that they do not wish to stop at a certain page! With this in mind, we do not set a certain number of pages each evening, but would like you to share quality reading time with your child making the emphasis on enjoyment and discussion.

On Fridays we test the week’s spellings, have a basic number test, and a ‘general’ test covering the week’s topic objectives and some basic general knowledge. We do aim to keep these tests as low key as possible!
In your child’s pencil case they will need:
Open Door Policy:
As with all the Junior School classes, Form 2 has an open door policy. You are welcome to come in for a quick chat, say ‘hello’ as you drop off your child in the morning and to touch base with us. Please feel free to do this at both the beginning and end of the school day. The children are often keen to show you their beautiful art work and other creations at the end of the day, so please do feel free to take them up on this! Our doors are always open!
In addition to the Parents’ Evenings, you are of course welcome to arrange a specific time for a private chat at any point during the school year.
