SUMMER TERM 2008
Spring Term 2008
1st July 2008
Dear Parents,
The year has simply flown by and it is hard to believe that the children are another year older, wiser and closer to starting school.

There has, as always, been plenty of action in the Pre-school and the children have been busy working at their topics and having fun. Healthy Eating has come to us all and the food served to children in the Main School has reflected this sea change within society with an increase in the amount of salad on offer. The Pre-school has embraced the trend and this term the children enjoyed a visit to Morrisons supermarket to buy healthy food for themselves and make choices about what they would like to eat. In case you hadn’t noticed, the children are becoming independent in their learning and decision making.

The water topic has fired the children’s imagination and interest and I have very much enjoyed looking at the their pictures and displays around the building. The visit to Pitlochry Dam reinforced much of their learning and the opportunity for some physical play was taken by all. Indeed, the Pre-school building has often been empty this term with the children outside enjoying the sunshine and chances to play in their beautiful surroundings.

There have been groups making use of the ski slope, taking part in ballet and this term’s Scottish Country Dancing has been a popular activity.

Is it a flood?

The global library has involved finding information about a range of countries and cultures with the theme being incorporated into the weekly baking activities. Food with origins in Italy, Spain, France, Turkey, Greece, India and Scotland has been produced and tomorrow’s concert will feature songs from Europe and beyond. We are hoping that the weather will stay fine for the Sports Day and that the competition is healthy.

The transition groups have had a really useful introduction to life in the Main School and they have developed plenty of confidence as they have visited all the key areas that they will need to know in August. They are fully ready to make the move up and we wish them well as we do all our leavers.

The full version of the Care Commission’s March Inspection reached us early this term and they were clearly impressed with the standards that exist within the Pre-school as were Perth and Kinross Council when they visited for their Term 3 and 4 visits. The Care Commission report is available on their website.

Over the course of the summer the Pre-school will be linked to the school’s network and this will provide further learning opportunities for the children as well as adding to the ease of communication with the staff there. The new email address will be provided to parents once the connection is live.

The red ones look yummy!

We’ll be on ‘Top Gear’ next!

Can you see any salmon?

Caroline Wilkinson and Elaine Weir both leave at the end of term to go on maternity leave and both were keen to stay until the end of term to give continuity to the children. We wish them the best of luck and look forward to their return in 2009. Their roles are being filled by two people familiar to the Pre-schoolers: Arianne Harvey and Kareen Morran and also Nicola Arkwright who will be new to the Craigclowan community.

I hope that you all enjoy a very relaxing summer break and that the children return raring to go!
