SUMMER TERM 2005

Spring Term 2005

  8th July, 2005
  Dear Parents,

I would like to begin this end of year letter by thanking everyone for their co-operation and help during our year of building. Although the Pre-school itself is not moving into the new building, the original motivation to prod us in the direction of a new building was our feeling that the Pre-school would benefit from additional space. On balance, we decided that the best solution for all sorts of reasons of self containment and ease of access was to expand into the Art room above the present classrooms. Thus, in September, those of you returning will come back to a doubling of space. The staff have been working hard to sort out their priorities for the use of the new space and you will find it used extensively for art and craft, and for meal times as well as other things. Irene and Caroline will fill in more of the detail at the beginning of term.

Details of the many activities of this term are widely available now on our website of www.craigclowan-school.co.uk Do have a look, if you have the opportunity, as there is a lot of evidence of the activities of the children on a week-by-week basis.

It is at this time of the year that we announce fees for next year. The fee for next year will rise to £152 per session. This is a rise of 4.25% and is somewhat below the national norm. The Perth and Kinross Council funding remains tiered between £210 and £350.

Thinking of money, the issue of Charitable Status has arisen recently. With this in mind, I enclose an excellent paper from Judith Sischy, the Director of the Scottish Council of Independent Schools. SCIS has been at the forefront on behalf of the schools on this issue, and her thoughts outline the likely impact on the schools of the test of ‘public benefit’. As you will see, there is optimism for all of us, although we will, of course, be faced with a further paper mountain to complete to justify our position as an educational charity. (Please excuse the SCIS spelling of Scottish on Page 1!)

Still thinking of money, I would like to pay tribute to the efforts of Barbie Young and her Parents Committee in particular, and you in general for handing over a total of £10,000 to the school to spend on new facilities in the new building. It has been a magnificent effort and one for which we are all very grateful.

During the holiday, we will operate ‘open house’ again to enable you to come into school between 9.00am and 3.00pm to see the surroundings for the children for the new school year. Bearing in mind the conversion work needed upstairs, the new classroom is unlikely to be available until after August 16th.

Time will soon pass however, and we look forward to seeing most of you in September in one part of the school or another. If you have any queries at all, do just pick up the telephone as I will be happy to deal with things as quickly as I am able.

With every best wish for a lovely holiday, and very grateful thanks for all the many and varied forms of help received during the year.

Yours sincerely,

Mike Beale
