  Dear Parents,

I would like to begin by thanking you all for the patience shown by everyone as the new building progresses. We are on schedule, not least behind-the-scenes, where more preparatory work is going on to make internal alterations to the main building, the kitchen and the art room in order to provide more space for the pre-school, the music department and the kitchen. More details of these alterations will come later in the year. Whilst the building process is going well, I cannot stress enough the need to continue to be careful when collecting and delivering the children, always giving priority to the children whenever and wherever cars and children mix.

Thank you also to those of you who were chosen by the Care Commission to complete parental questionnaires for the recent follow-up inspection. That inspection has gone very well, underlining the strength of the relationships between the staff and pupils and between the school and parents. There are no outstanding issues from the inspection and, thankfully, we have been advised that we will not be visited again until next year. Regardless of how happy we might be with things in school, inspections of any sort are stressful and I am grateful to all the staff for the manner in which they continue to work with the children in spite of the disruption that inspection can cause.

Working hard !

St. Andrew’s Day

I’m a reindeer in disguise !

Looking ahead to next year, we are doing very well for registrations into Form I. I always give priority to existing Craigclowan families, so it would be a great help to me to know if you are thinking about Form I, or indeed a class higher up the school for siblings so that I can avoid any difficulties about places later in the year. If any of you would like to look at any of the classes in the main school, I would be delighted to show you around.

From a practical point of view, I will be available until Friday, December 17th and the office will be manned until Thursday, December 23rd. We will be closed between Christmas and New Year but the office will open again on Monday, January 3rd. As always, do not hesitate to be in touch if there are any matters arising.

Santa’s Grotto

Is he the real Santa?

Ho, ho, ho !

Finally, I would like to say thankyou to Jean Beattie who has retired from late prep. Nothing was too much trouble for Jean and I am pleased to say that she is recovering from her illness. For those of you using late prep, Jean’s role is now being filled by Omy Lawrie. Omy has been with us for many years and has simply switched roles from the senior children to those attending from the pre-school and the younger classes in the main school.

We wish you all a restful and happy Christmas, whilst looking forward to seeing you all back in January.

With best wishes,

Yours sincerely,

Mike Beale
