Dear Parents,
It has been
another very busy term for the children
in the Pre-School, but you dont
need me to tell you that.
As always there
has been a wide variety of activities to
which the children have taken with
enthusiasm and great excitement. The
visit to the library came on the back of
time spent promoting the value of books
and reading. A love of books is a great
thing and whatever support you can give
to your child in this respect is very
worthwhile.
The
childrens dinosaur project was
supplemented by the recent trip to Deep
Sea World and generated considerable
interest and expertise - the staff are
always amazed by the depth of knowledge
that exists in ones so young particularly
with regard to large, scary reptiles.
On a slightly
different level there have been events to
mark days of national importance: the
Burns Ceilidh was a great success with
Head Boy Cameron Montgomery piping for
the children and the Chinese New Year
could not be allowed to pass without
suitable investigation, fact finding and
celebration. |

| There are few
better sights than that of a Pre-School
crocodile snaking its way around the site
whatever the weather to find out more
about the environment they are fortunate
to be able to call school.
They certainly enjoy these outings and
developing a passion for the outdoors is
an important part of their education. The
pancakes the children made were, so
Im told, simply delicious but
theyd all disappeared by the time I
arrived. Those attending a Friday morning
session have watched with interest a
series of topics being addressed at the
Infant and Pre-School assembly and the
young ones have listened really well. |

Whats this dinosaur
called then? |

The
Care Commission recently carried
out an unexpected inspection of
the Pre-School and were impressed
by what they saw on their visit
and read in the questionnaires
sent to some parents before
Christmas. Our thanks to those
who were asked to respond. Their
full report will be published
shortly and such was the level of
their satisfaction that it will
be two years before they inspect
us again.
Throughout
the year there has been a number
of groups from the local
community at the school after the
children have gone home;
cricketers, golfers, badminton
players, skiers and hockey
players have all benefited from
use of the schools
facilities and the end of term
Sport Relief Mile will have
raised a substantial sum for a
very worthwhile charity. |

| It
is worth noting that in the Main School,
this term saw a round of scholarship
exams for some of our Form 7 children.
There are just nineteen of the year group
leaving in the summer but six children
were successful and that represents a
very healthy proportion. Mairi Hill
started the ball rolling, winning an
academic scholarship to Kilgraston and
Cameron Montgomery was top of the
academic scholars and won a Piping
Exhibition at Glenalmond while Ross
Davies and Annabel Flowers both won All-Rounder
awards at the College. At Strathallan,
Marcus Black won a Sports Scholarship and
Martin Marshall became a Music Scholar.
These achievements reflect the quality
and breadth of the education on offer at
the school. We always hope that children
in the Pre-School will move up to the
Main School when the time is right and
build on the great start they are given.
For some, though, the prospect can be
financially daunting but bursaries are
available and details are on the school
website. |

At the end of
the Summer Term, Caroline Wilkinson and
Elaine Weir will leave us temporarily on
maternity leave, but we are fortunate to
be able to cover their duties with staff
experienced in working within the
Craigclowan Pre-School.
I would like to
wish you and your children a relaxing
Easter break. |
