Dear
Parents,
In 1979, I
welcomed, on my first morning at Craigclowan, 3
children into the Pre school, and I was welcomed
by Mrs Rose, who had arrived at school in her
1958, immaculate, green Ford Prefect! On her
retirement shortly after, Joyce Frail arrived to
teach a growing little band of people, aided by
Irene Hay as we expanded from morning only
sessions into the afternoons as well. There were
no inspections, no-one to tell us what we
shouldnt be doing, and no-one to tell us
what we should do! How times change!
I am
tempted to ask whether we are better off now with
so much paper to haunt us from the Scottish
Executive, the HMIe, the Care Commission or the
local authority? Of course, we are not, but the
Pre School retains its true identity even though
it has evolved so much in size and shape. It was
then, and it is now, the very beginning of life
at Craigclowan for so many children and parents.
We maintain our desire to teach our children as
they become ready for the new challenges that
school can bring, and we keep our express wish to
ensure that we are reflecting the needs of our
market. That market is, of course,
all of you, and the purpose of a little nostalgia,
is for me to reflect that after 28 years the Pre
School has maintained its vital role in the well
being of the whole school. For that I am very
grateful to all the staff throughout the period.
Indeed, there have only been 8 core people in all
that time. Lucky indeed, we have been. I would
also like to thank all of you for supporting us,
and of course pay tribute to all of those small
people who develop and change so much over such a
short period. It is difficult sometimes for
parents to be handing their precious offspring
over into a world that becomes the domain of
their children rather than their own. We never
underestimate the challenge that that poses.

Our
world in the Pre School is very dynamic. The
section in the web site at www.craigclowan-school.co.uk gives a flavour of the action
on a weekly basis. Highlights this term have been
recorded in detail on the site.
Sadly,
Verona Peace has retired to look
after Ribh on a full time basis, but we are
delighted to welcome back Elaine Weir from
Maternity leave. Lynne Jenkins has also joined us
and she will be responsible for the transition
class for Form 1 entrants that we operate in the
Summer Term.

My time at
Craigclowan draws to a close. Andy Rathborne and
I will be working together until April 18th. At
that point he and Alex will be flying solo. I
know that they will feel that same warmth of
support that Angela and I have enjoyed for so
long. A huge thank you to each and every one of
you. We are going to miss you all.
