WELCOME TO FORM 3

Dear Parents,
We thought it might be helpful for you to have a note of the normal routines and preps in Form 3, just in case there is ever any confusion on the children’s part.

Monday - Games and Gym

Tuesday - Scottish Country Dance after school

Wednesday - Art

Thursday - Games

Friday - Scripture Union at Lunch break and Riding after school / Ocarina

On Monday and Wednesday, homework will usually be Spellings to write out and learn. On Tuesday and Thursday there will be Maths or Handwriting prep, plus tables or number bonds to practise. At the weekend there may be Project work, a book report or some investigative task to do. In addition to this the children have reading every day, either from a group reader or from their own choice of library book. We would like them always to have a library book in school. The final task in this rather long list is to practise the ocarina for about ten minutes twice a week.

On the subject of reading, the children will be given individual reading diaries to be initialled each day with space for comments in either direction. On the days when reading is from a library book we would like the children to note the pages they have read and again we would ask you to initial this to be sure that it is realistic! We do appreciate the time and effort you give to hearing your children read at home, its value cannot be underestimated; fluency, understanding and expression all derive from regular practice. If anyone is interested in a sheet containing some useful guidelines for helping children read aloud we would be happy to let you have one, together with a list of books, which might be enjoyed by children of this age.

If you have any questions please do not hesitate to ask.

Yours sincerely,

Wendy Duncan
