PRIZE GIVING

03 JULY 2008

Prizes were awarded to no fewer than 114 children for their efforts throughout the year, most of whom were first time winners. We were treated to an entertaining, uplifting and inspiring speech from our guest speaker, Lucy Pearson, the Deputy Head at Wellington College in Berkshire and a former England Women cricketer. A tremendous occasion and well done to all the children.

FORM 7 PRODUCTION - WIZARD OF OZ

01 > 02 JULY 2008

Once again the rush was on. Could the leavers perfect their performance, with all of its singing and dancing, in just thirteen days?
Of course they could! The two nights were a triumph, with some fantastic individual performances from Marcus Buist (Tin Man), George Plevan (Lion), Chris McCarthy (Scarecrow) and Annabel Flowers (Dorothy). It must be said that every single member of the cast had had a ball during the performances and that it had all been worth the hard work.
Congratulations to all and good luck with any future forays onto the stage. .

The National Trust provided a Living History experience for all of Form 6. We met the Keeper, Queen Mary, Queen of Scots and Lord Darnley’s valet. Boys and girls were dressed in sixteenth century costume appropriate to the royal court of 1565.

SPORTS DAY

28 JUNE 2008

The new format Sports Day was a tremendous success with children in forms IV – VII doing battle for their house in the fine weather. There were plenty of fine individual performances, Mrs Larivière presented the prizes, the most important, of course, being the House Trophy which went to Arran.

CRICKET SEASON

SUMMER 2008

As I eagerly look forward to coaching cricket in Kent next year, I look back with enormous pride at the hundreds of boys who have represented Craigclowan at all levels during the last twelve years. To list all the highlights would mean writing a small book. My pick would have to be taking boys to have lunch with Sir Garfield Sobers, the ‘Dream Team’ of 2001 and completing the Double in the 2007 Glenalmond Sixes Tournament.

This season’s group have worked very hard. The weather has played its part but the boys have kept cheery. However you look at it, the boys have had an unbeaten season! Ross impressed with the bat and Grant Doig and Hugh Dingwall proved to be a handy double spin attack. We were a bit sleepy at the Sixes this year but other than that, the cricket was very entertaining.

My thanks to Donnie the groundsman and the army of parents who turned up to watch - whatever the weather!

To celebrate the end of a hard-working year in French, Form 5 (W) organised a sumptuous fancy-dress French feast where Astérix, Marie-Antoinette, Inspector Clouseau and assorted bakers and onion-sellers were joined by a glamorous Carla Bruni!
C'était magnifique! Merci à tous et bonnes vacances!

FORM 1 TO DEER CENTRE

26 JUNE 2008

Amid much excitement the children of Form 1 boarded the coach this morning for their trip to the Scottish Deer Centre. We had a wonderful time with ‘Sherry’ the fourteen year old Red Deer who had spent the first five years of her life living with a lady in her kitchen! As a result she was extremely calm and friendly with all the children. We went on to feed the Roe Deer, play on the fantastic outdoor climbing centre and watch an amazing falconry display with a European Owl, a Hawk and a Kestrel. They all swooped around and just above the children with the Owl actually joining us at our tables! After lunch, a visit to the shop and more play we rejoined our coach for the journey home.
