WELCOME TO FORM 2A

A TYPICAL SCHOOL WEEK

Assemblies take place on Tuesday, Thursday and Friday.
Tuesday is a sharing morning when the children have the opportunity to share any news they have with the rest of the Infant Assembly.
Thursday is a “Birthday Morning”. Any child who has had a birthday during the previous week is asked to bring in some presents and a few cards to show the other children. We have a pretend cake with candles and we sing “Happy Birthday” to those with a birthday.
Friday is an assembly day taken by each class in turn.

The children have a gym / creative dance lesson once a week.
They have a class ocarina lesson and a class Music lesson once a week.
These are taken by specialist teachers.

Maths and English will be done every day.
Scripture, Science and Art will be done weekly.
Two projects will be done each term. The children are encouraged to bring in items of interest to use as visual aids for displays.
(Plus points are awarded for this!)
They are also encouraged to do personal research for these projects, using the library, computers etc.

PREP.

Reading will be set every night.
It should be heard by an adult and the marker should be signed or initialled by whoever listens to the reading.
At the weekend, the children will normally read a Puffin book instead of their school reading book.

There will be a variety of written prep.
Usually, spelling words will be written down and learned. Some of these words will be written in sentences of their own.
There will also be Number work to do. This could take the form of a worksheet, booklet, written sums or tables.
All homework set will be written down by the children in a daily prep diary.

As a general rule, on Friday we will have a spelling test and a tables test.

Prep should normally take no longer than half an hour. We expect all homework to be neatly presented.

Reading should be heard and the marker signed by an adult each night.

Spelling: The spelling words are usually taken from the John Smith spelling book.
These words should be written out 3 times and learned.
The children are also asked to write 2 or 3 sentences of their own (using 2 or 3 of the spelling list words) i.e. they do not copy the sentences from the John Smith book.

Number: This will vary and may be a number sheet, sums in their prep jotter or learning tables.

PLUS AND MINUS MARKS.

From 2A to Form 7, the children can be given plus or minus marks.
Plus points are used to positively encourage the children.
They can be awarded for good work, politeness, being kind, helpful and considerate towards others and for sports events.

Minus marks are given for bad behaviour, poor work, not handing in homework or forgetting items of games kit. A reason for a minus mark is usually written down.

Plus and minus marks are written on a chart in the child's prep diary.
During the year, plus points should far outnumber any minus marks.

Each week, the marks are collated by the class teacher. Plus and minus marks for the week are crossed out and the totals are then sent to Monsieur Borderie to be added to the school house points chart.
